Labour Party Faction Plans to Expel Peter Obi Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), has revealed that the party is preparing to expel its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Arabambi accused Obi of undermining the party by openly supporting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a rival political platform backed by a coalition. He stated that Obi’s actions violate the constitution, emphasizing that no individual is permitted to hold affiliations with two political parties simultaneously.

“We are convening a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting where Peter Obi will be officially expelled from the party,” Arabambi announced. “You know he was already on suspension before engaging in further anti-party activities. You cannot join another political party while still attempting to maintain ties with the Labour Party. He knows it’s unconstitutional to belong to two political parties at the same time.”

Arabambi also accused Obi of being the origin of the internal crisis currently plaguing the Labour Party, arguing that the former Anambra State governor lacks the integrity and discipline required to lead any political organization.

Despite his involvement in activities that led to the formation and promotion of the ADC-led movement, Peter Obi has insisted that he remains a member of the Labour Party. In a recent interview, Obi clarified that he is not a registered member of the ADC but merely supports the coalition’s ideals and objectives.

He also reaffirmed his political ambition, declaring that he remains eligible and determined to contest for the presidency in 2027, positioning himself once again as a viable candidate to lead Nigeria.
