The Theatre Commander of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has dismissed recent media reports alleging that Boko Haram terrorists invaded Kirawa community in Borno State last Saturday.
The initial claims, first published by NewsCentral TV, suggested that the insurgents carried out the assault within Nigerian territory. However, General Abubakar clarified that the incident actually took place in another Kirawa — located in the Republic of Cameroon — which shares an international border with Nigeria.
According to the commander, the attack targeted Cameroonian soldiers stationed at their military base in Kirawa, Cameroon, not Nigerian troops under OPHK. He noted that some reports had wrongly linked the event to Nigeria’s security forces.
In a brief message to Vanguard on Monday, General Abubakar stated:
> “It’s the Cameroonian Base in Kirawa that was attacked, not Nigerian troops.”
He further provided videos and photographs from the scene, showing destroyed operational vehicles clearly identified as belonging to Cameroonian forces.
The Theatre Commander urged journalists and media outlets to verify the authenticity of such sensitive information with military authorities before publication, stressing that unverified reports could mislead the public and distort facts about security operations.
