President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated all winners of the by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, across 16 constituencies in 12 states of the federation.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as largely peaceful and hitch-free polls, with minimal incidents of violence.
According to the results announced by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won one constituency, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) claimed one as well.
President Tinubu extended special congratulations to the newly elected APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, noting that the by-election victories marked an impressive start under his leadership. He also praised APC governors and party leaders for their contributions to the party’s success.
“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown remarkable leadership capacity and demonstrated the possibilities that emerge when credible candidates are presented and unity prevails among party stakeholders,” the President remarked.
Expressing gratitude to APC supporters and the Nigerian electorate, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to its Renewed Hope agenda.
“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope is not just a slogan. Our collective destination is a more secure, prosperous, and better Nigeria. By the grace of God, we shall achieve it,” he affirmed.
The President further commended all political parties and candidates who participated in the elections, urging them to uphold the values of sportsmanship, fairness, and magnanimity—principles he described as vital to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
