NCAA Interact with Passenger and Crew Over Ibom Air Flight Altercation

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that it has met with Comfort Emanson, the Ibom Air passenger at the center of a heated altercation with the airline’s crew members during a flight from Uyo to Lagos.

According to NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu, Emanson attended the meeting in the company of her lawyer. He confirmed the engagement on Thursday but did not provide details of what was discussed.

Earlier, Achimugu explained that the Authority had already met with members of the airline’s cabin crew involved in the incident. He further revealed that several directorates within the NCAA—including aviation security, operations, licensing and training standards, legal, and consumer protection—are working together to ensure a thorough investigation and a fair conclusion.

“On Wednesday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other crew members linked to the incident. Later today, Comfort Emanson, the passenger, is also scheduled to meet with the Authority, accompanied by her lawyer,” Achimugu said.

The altercation, which occurred on August 10, 2025, escalated when Emanson reportedly assaulted a flight attendant and resisted security personnel at the Lagos airport. Videos capturing the clash between her and a member of the crew went viral, drawing widespread public attention.

While many Nigerians criticized Emanson for her unruly behavior, others also faulted the actions of a flight attendant who was seen in the footage preventing her from disembarking.

Following her arrest at the Lagos airport, Emanson was arraigned in court and briefly remanded in prison. She was later released after the charges against her were dropped.
