Manchester United remain without a Premier League victory this season after being held to a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim’s side were left frustrated after captain Bruno Fernandes squandered a first-half penalty, blasting his effort over the bar following a VAR review that penalized Calvin Bassey for grappling Mason Mount.
United eventually went ahead on the hour mark when Rodrigo Muniz inadvertently deflected Leny Yoro’s header into his own net. However, Fulham were furious that VAR did not intervene, claiming Yoro had pushed Bassey in the buildup. The Cottagers found their equalizer 17 minutes from time when Emile Smith Rowe, introduced from the bench, ghosted into the box to turn in Alex Iwobi’s cross.
United, who lost 1-0 to Arsenal in their opening game, will feel two points slipped away, while Amorim continues to wait for his £200 million attacking trio of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko to deliver.
Meanwhile, Everton marked a historic moment at their new home with a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Manager David Moyes described the win as “a big step forward for the club” after years of struggle at Goodison Park.
Jack Grealish, the club’s marquee signing, played a starring role by assisting both goals. Iliman Ndiaye etched his name into history by scoring the first goal at the new stadium, meeting Grealish’s cross at the far post after 23 minutes. James Garner then sealed the win with a powerful strike early in the second half from another Grealish setup.
Brighton had chances to fight back—Kaoru Mitoma struck the crossbar, Jan Paul van Hecke hit the post, and Danny Welbeck missed from close range before his late penalty was saved by Jordan Pickford.
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest battled to a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace. Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring for Palace, but Callum Hudson-Odoi struck in the second half to rescue a point for Forest.
Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo dismissed speculation about his future, despite reports of a strained relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. “That is nonsense. It does not make any kind of sense,” he said, rejecting claims he is engineering an exit from the club.
