The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for dismissing the outcome of the August 16 bye-elections conducted across 12 states of the federation.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party accused the PDP governors of hypocrisy, poor governance, and misleading Nigerians with what it described as baseless allegations.
Morka condemned a communiqué released by the PDP Governors’ Forum after its meeting in Zamfara State, where the opposition leaders alleged that the APC lacked vision, engaged in undemocratic practices, and would be rejected by Nigerians in the 2027 general elections.
According to the APC, such statements only reflect the crumbling state of the PDP, which it described as “a party in deep coma, crippled by internal crises and reduced to a shadow of its former self.”
“It is comical that PDP governors—whose party has lost credibility and been overwhelmingly rejected by Nigerians—are making claims that more accurately mirror their own doomed political fate,” the statement read.
The ruling party said instead of issuing “frivolous and senseless allegations,” PDP governors should channel their energy into reviving their “terminally ailing party” and addressing the frustrations of their members who, according to the APC, are still holding onto false hopes of revival.
Morka further argued that the APC’s recent victories in Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kano—despite what he described as intimidation and violence allegedly sponsored by opposition governments—were clear indicators of the electorate’s growing support for the ruling party.
He faulted the PDP governors for what he called their “infantile and irresponsible” attitude of celebrating democracy only when they win, while condemning the same process when they lose.
The APC also accused the governors of failing in their primary responsibility of governance, despite receiving record-high federal allocations under President Bola Tinubu.
“Over ₦2 trillion has been distributed to states by July 2025—the highest in our nation’s history—yet PDP governors continue to deliver disgracefully poor performance in their states,” the statement said.
The ruling party stressed that Nigeria would not return to what it called the “dark era” of PDP-led federal rule, when many states were bankrupt and unable to meet basic obligations such as salary payments.
