Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, stressing that he has no intention of leaving for another platform but remains open to political discussions.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja during the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP, Kwankwaso dismissed speculations that he might defect.
“Many people expected that today we would announce whether I will remain in NNPP, move to another party, or align with certain individuals. That was never the purpose of this meeting,” he said.
The former Kano State governor emphasized that the NNPP remains his political base.
“We have our party, and we are comfortable here. We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes because we are not in a hurry. The members, the leadership, and all of us believe we have something meaningful to offer at the highest level of leadership in this country, and we want to pursue it the right way,” Kwankwaso noted.
He further explained that while the NNPP is committed to fairness, inclusivity, and collective decision-making, the party also remains flexible and willing to engage with other stakeholders when necessary.
“Our focus is on identity membership. More and more people are joining us. If there will be any negotiations, it will be done collectively,” he added.
In his welcome remarks, the National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, described the party as the “beautiful bride of Nigerian politics,” stressing that it is fast becoming the most sought-after political platform ahead of 2027.
He also confirmed that the NNPP would once again present Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate, citing his leadership qualities and nationwide acceptance.
