As Nigeria prepares to celebrate her 65th independence anniversary, the Federal Government on Sunday organized a special interdenominational service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to offer prayers of thanksgiving for the nation.
The solemn service brought together top government officials and dignitaries. In attendance were the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, both accompanied by their spouses. Also present were the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Simon Lalong.
The military and security community were also well represented. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led the Service Chiefs, including the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, and the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, among others.
The gathering was part of a series of activities lined up to mark the anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, which will be commemorated on October 1.
Earlier in the week, the Federal Government unveiled the official theme for the 2025 Independence Day celebration. According to the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, the theme is: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The government explained that the theme underscores the need for unity, collaboration, and patriotism among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens. It also highlights the importance of consolidating past achievements while striving toward greater national peace, prosperity, and progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
