ASUU Announces Two-Week Warning Strike, Accuses Government of Insincerity

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced the commencement of a two-week warning strike, providing the Federal Government with a limited window to finalize ongoing negotiations with the union.

According to a statement issued by ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing held at the union’s national secretariat at the University of Abuja, all members across the country have been instructed to suspend academic activities and withdraw their services effective midnight.

Dr. Piwuna explained that the decision followed what the union described as the government’s lack of sincerity and commitment in addressing critical issues affecting the education sector and fulfilling previous agreements reached with the union.

He emphasized that the two-week strike is intended to give the government a final opportunity to resolve all outstanding matters before ASUU considers further industrial action.
