The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, on new charges of murder involving the deaths of two police officers.
Evans, alongside his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, was brought before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos High Court on a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
The case, which was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker, alleges that Evans and his co-defendant killed two police officers, Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, on August 27, 2013, at about 10 p.m. in Festac Town, Lagos.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravene Section 221 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2011.
During the proceedings, State Prosecutor A.O. Azeez confirmed the case transfer and requested a fresh arraignment, despite Evans’ previous plea bargain applications before the former judge.
Both Evans and his co-defendant pleaded not guilty to the amended five-count charge.
Justice Ogala subsequently adjourned the case to November 19, 2025, for hearing and issuance of witness summons.
Evans is already a convicted felon, serving sentences in connection with two of his five pending criminal cases.
