APC Outperforms Labour Party at Peter Obi’s Polling Unit in Anambra Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won at the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.

The result was announced around 3 p.m. at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area — the same unit where Obi cast his vote earlier in the day.

According to official figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, garnered 73 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) candidate, George Moghalu, came second with 57 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) placed third with 38 votes.

The outcome has generated widespread reactions across political circles, given Obi’s significant influence in Anambra politics — particularly in Agulu, his hometown, where he has long enjoyed massive grassroots support.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obi, as the Labour Party’s candidate, dominated Anambra State with over 95 percent of the votes, winning nearly all polling units across the state.

Despite his efforts to rally support for the LP candidate in this election, the results from his polling unit point to a potential shift in voter sentiment and the growing presence of rival political parties in the state.
