The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has reaffirmed that the recent national convention was conducted in full accordance with the party’s constitution, guidelines, the Electoral Act, and all relevant regulations.
Wabara, in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, said the convention reflected the collective decision of delegates and major stakeholders of the PDP from across the country.
He strongly condemned the invasion of the PDP National Secretariat by individuals he described as “expelled members and armed thugs,” accusing them of attempting to intimidate party members and forcefully seize the secretariat.
According to him, these expelled elements mobilised the thugs in a failed attempt to stop members of the newly elected National Working Committee, led by Turaki, from entering the premises. Turaki was in the company of the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; Governor Seyi Makinde; and other key party leaders during the incident.
Wabara commended the firmness and unity displayed by PDP governors, the NWC, BoT members, and thousands of loyal party supporters who resisted the attackers and safeguarded the party’s institution.
He firmly rejected the public statements and activities of those he said were lawfully expelled from the party, stressing that their actions were intended to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and cause confusion within the party structure.
The BoT called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attacks on the party’s secretariat and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice, noting that democracy can only thrive when institutions remain neutral, professional, and free from political interference.
Wabara urged the newly elected NWC to stay focused and committed to rebuilding and repositioning the PDP as the party works toward victory in the 2027 general elections.
