Kalu Alleges Politically Motivated Plot Behind Rising Insecurity, Says Attacks Aim to Undermine Tinubu

Former Abia State governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has accused unnamed political actors of fueling the recent spike in killings and abductions across the country, alleging that the violence is part of a broader plan to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kalu said the pattern of attacks points to a coordinated political agenda rather than isolated criminal incidents. According to him, the individuals behind the violence are determined to ensure President Tinubu is unsuccessful in office—similar to what he claimed happened during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said the rise in insecurity typically coincides with election seasons, noting that certain politicians use orchestrated crises as a bargaining tool against the government in power.

Kalu further alleged that both local actors and foreign interests are contributing to the instability, insisting the recent surge in terrorism and banditry is not coincidental but strategically planned to create national tension ahead of future elections.

He stated, “The terrorists and the bandits are orchestrated by some members of the international community and local people who really want to destabilise the government.”

Despite expressing concern over the escalating security challenges, Kalu commended President Tinubu for prioritising national safety, noting that the President had cancelled official engagements to focus entirely on security matters following a series of high-profile kidnappings.

He assured Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to rescue abducted victims, including recently kidnapped schoolgirls, stressing that the government is working tirelessly to address the crisis.

Kalu described the period as “not the best of times” for the nation but maintained confidence in the government’s ability to restore peace.
