The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has strongly condemned the killing of Venerable Edwin Achi of the Diocese of Kaduna, calling on the Federal Government to identify, expose and prosecute those sponsoring violent attacks across the country.
In a statement signed by the Primate of the Church, the Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, the Church described the death of the cleric—who was murdered after spending a month in captivity—as a heartbreaking development that reflects the worsening state of insecurity nationwide.
“With deep grief, we announce the tragic death of our beloved priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, of the Diocese of Kaduna. He was brutally murdered after enduring a month-long abduction,” Archbishop Ndukuba said.
He hailed the late Achi as a dedicated servant of God whose lifetime of sacrifice, compassion and service was cut short by a growing wave of violence that continues to destabilise communities across the country.
“We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, these senseless and cruel acts. This violence that keeps destroying families and communities has no place in any society that desires peace and progress,” he stated.

The Primate also extended prayers to all individuals still being held by kidnappers, urging intensified national efforts toward securing their release. He called on security agencies and political leaders to intensify actions aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring safety in all regions.
“We appeal to the government, security authorities and leaders at every level to do everything within their power to eradicate this evil from our nation. May the blood of our departed Venerable Edwin Achi not be shed in vain,” Ndukuba urged.
The Church prayed for strength for the bereaved family and for healing and peace across Nigeria.
