Ejiofor Demands Full Disclosure on Rescue of Kebbi Schoolchildren, Kwara Worshippers

Social critic and legal practitioner, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has urged the Federal Government to give a detailed explanation of how abducted schoolchildren in Kebbi State and church worshippers in Kwara State were rescued from bandits. He stressed that Nigerians deserve clear and honest information about the operations.

In a statement titled “A Miracle Without a Blueprint? The Puzzling Rescue of the Kebbi School Children and Kwara Church Worshippers,” Ejiofor said that although the nation is relieved that the victims have returned safely, citizens are equally demanding clarity on the rescue process—clarity the government has not yet provided.

He acknowledged the widespread celebration that followed the release, describing it as a moment when the nation finally “exhaled” after weeks of anxiety. However, he maintained that rebuilding trust in Nigeria’s security system requires more than celebratory statements.

Ejiofor questioned why authorities have remained silent on key aspects of the operation.
He asked: How was the rescue carried out? What happened to the abductors? Were any arrested or neutralised? Or did they simply disappear?

According to him, Nigerians across the country—at workplaces, markets, and social gatherings—are wondering whether the rescue was truly an operational breakthrough or a negotiated release involving ransom or undisclosed compromises.

He criticised what he described as vague and evasive comments by some government officials, referencing the recent Arise TV interview with Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
He noted that when Onanuga was asked directly whether any kidnappers were arrested or if ransom was paid, the responses were “conveniently unclear.”

Ejiofor warned that if ransom was paid, it could empower criminal groups by providing funds for weapons, logistics, and new recruits.

He also highlighted the need to remember the victims who lost their lives in the Kebbi and Kwara attacks, cautioning that their deaths should not be reduced to mere statistics in Nigeria’s ongoing security crisis.

Ejiofor insisted that only a transparent and comprehensive briefing from security agencies can restore public confidence and stop the spread of speculation.

“We cannot pretend to feel safe when the masterminds of these recent tragedies may still be out there, armed and planning another strike,” he said.

He prayed for increased strength and wisdom for Nigeria’s security operatives and urged the nation to remain committed to the pursuit of peace despite recurring setbacks.
