EFCC Files Eight-Count Charge Against Former Labour Minister Chris Ngige

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed an eight-count charge against former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige.

According to details contained in the charge, which was filed before the FCT High Court in Gwarimpa, Ngige is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.

The charge, dated October 31 and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Sylvanus Tahir alongside five other lawyers, alleges that the former minister abused his position by awarding multiple contracts to his associates and companies believed to be linked to him.

In the first count, the EFCC claims that between September 2015 and May 2023, while serving as the supervising minister of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Ngige allegedly used his office to give an unfair advantage to Cezimo Nigeria Limited. The company is reportedly connected to Ezebinwa Amarachukwu Charles, described as the firm’s Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, and the former minister’s associate.

More details of the remaining counts are expected to be presented during his court appearance.
