Truck Crash on Kara Bridge Claims Two Lives, Injures Several on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

At least two commuters lost their lives on Sunday following a multiple-vehicle accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Kara Bridge axis, inward Mowe.
The crash occurred when a truck transporting bags of flour reportedly lost control while approaching the bridge and rammed into several vehicles on the busy highway. The vehicles involved included two fully loaded interstate commercial buses, a Toyota Corolla, and a RAV4 SUV.
The impact also affected a Toyota Corolla that had been parked on the bridge due to a flat tyre, leaving its driver injured.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) were immediately deployed to the scene to carry out rescue operations and manage traffic.
Confirming the incident in a statement, LASTMA said the crash involved a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, a RAV4 SUV, and two interstate Mazda buses. The agency added that injured victims were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The accident triggered severe traffic congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with many motorists stranded for several hours. However, LASTMA later announced that partial recovery of the affected vehicles had been completed, leading to an improvement in traffic flow.
Officials said personnel remained on ground to ensure the safety of road users and maintain smooth traffic movement in collaboration with the FRSC.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over safety on the Kara Bridge, which has recorded several fatal accidents in recent times.
On October 30, 2025, at least six people, including a police officer, were killed in a separate multiple-truck collision on the same bridge. That crash involved several trucks, including a fuel tanker, with eyewitnesses reporting that one of the trucks veered off the road, crashed into the bridge’s brick barricade, and plunged into the river below. One of the victims was reportedly burnt beyond recognition.
The October incident caused extensive damage and prolonged gridlock after one of the trucks fell into the river following the collision.
As of Sunday, authorities had yet to release a comprehensive report on the latest crash, including the exact number of casualties.
