The erstwhile leader of the Apex Youth Organization in Nnewi North, Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna, has called on young people across Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as the political platform through which genuine change will be achieved in Nigeria.
Amb. Ikebunwa made this call while speaking with Newday Reporters in Nnewi during the dedication ceremony of the Nnewi Catholic Cathedral, an event he attended alongside other dignitaries. The former Special Assistant on Grassroots Mobilization to Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who doubles as an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, lamented the current state of the nation and the continued underrepresentation of his constituency.
According to him, Nigeria is presently at a critical crossroads, with the economy in distress and citizens facing unprecedented hardship.
He noted that the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo have been grossly underrepresented at the federal level, stressing that the situation has never been this bad for the constituency and it’s people.
“We are at a defining moment in our history. The economy is struggling, the people are suffering, and our constituency remains grossly underrepresented. We have never had it this bad as a people. That is why it is important that we begin to make conscious decisions that will change our political destiny come 2027,” he said.
Amb. Ikebunwa explained that Nigerians who are genuinely committed to rescuing the country have now rallied around the ADC as the single political platform to drive the much-needed transformation. He urged both young and old, with particular emphasis on the youth, to seize the moment by joining the party and becoming active participants in shaping Nigeria’s future.
“The ADC is the platform that will be used to rescue Nigeria. That is why I am calling on everyone, especially our young people, to rally now and join the ADC. Let us be part of this mission to save our country and secure a better future for ourselves and our children,” he added.
He further disclosed that his political alignment is guided by his leader, Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, who has also identified the ADC as the platform for the Rescue Nigeria Movement.
“For me, I am following my political leader, Mr. Peter Obi. He has told us that ADC is the platform we will use, and as firm believers in the Rescue Nigeria Mission, we have long joined this party. Today, we are calling on you to join us so that together we can save Nigeria for the sake of the next generation,” he concluded.
Newday Reporters recalls that Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna recently commenced the payment for ward offices for the ADC across all ten wards in Nnewi North Local Government Area, in line with his commitment to firmly establish the party at the grassroots level in Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo. He has repeatedly expressed his readiness to invest in building strong party structures across the constituency.
Beyond politics, the the former Special Assistant on Grassroot Mobilization to Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has also been actively involved in human capital development initiatives. He recently provided funding for skills acquisition programmes aimed at empowering youths in Nnewi to become self-reliant and economically productive. Adding to this, he also donated the sum of ₦1 million to the Nnewi Academic Congress to support scholarship schemes for indigent students from the constituency, among several other educational and empowerment interventions.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum, observers will be keenly watching to see whether the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo will embrace and support the new political platform championed by the protagonist of the 2023 presidential elections, Mr. Peter Obi, and his allies within the ADC.
