The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Wahid Shaibu, has charged troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army to sustain discipline, professionalism, and commitment in their ongoing efforts to restore and maintain peace across Plateau State.
Shaibu gave the charge during an operational visit to the Division’s headquarters in Jos, where he held a strategic engagement with senior officers, commissioned newly renovated accommodation and office facilities, and addressed soldiers at the parade ground.
Describing the security situation in Plateau State as critical, the Army Chief noted that the state’s peculiar challenges demand a disciplined, coordinated, and professional military approach.
He emphasized that the responsibility placed on the troops was significant, stressing that peace and stability in the state depend largely on their conduct and dedication.
Shaibu assured officers and soldiers that the Army Headquarters was aware of their operational challenges and welfare concerns, adding that concrete steps were being taken to address them.
According to him, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division had provided a comprehensive briefing on the situation, and necessary interventions would be implemented to improve operational effectiveness and troop welfare.
He reaffirmed that personnel welfare remains a top priority, pledging continued support to ensure an enabling environment for troops to carry out their duties effectively.
The COAS also reminded soldiers that the Nigerian Army is a structured institution founded on hierarchy, mentorship, and respect for the chain of command. He urged younger personnel to learn from their superiors and adhere strictly to military ethics.
He described military service as a voluntary but noble calling, encouraging troops to remain committed to serving the nation with honour.
Shaibu further highlighted discipline and physical fitness as the cornerstone of military professionalism, stressing that soldiers must remain mentally alert and physically prepared at all times.
He urged troops to seek guidance whenever in doubt and tasked senior non-commissioned officers with providing effective middle-level leadership to guide younger soldiers.
Commending troops deployed under Operation Ensuring Peace, the Army Chief acknowledged their sacrifices and reassured them that their efforts were recognised and appreciated by the nation.
He noted that the operation was specifically designed to address Plateau State’s unique security challenges and called on the troops to remain proud, resolute, and professional in the discharge of their duties.
Shaibu concluded by urging the soldiers to stand firm, uphold the values of the Nigerian Army, and continue working diligently to secure lasting peace in the state.
