A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Solomon Bob, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Mr. Daniel Bwala, accusing him of misrepresenting facts and promoting a “maliciously distorted narrative” against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Bob’s remarks came in response to comments made by Bwala during a television program on Friday. In the broadcast, the presidential aide claimed that Wike had been “adequately compensated” and suggested that the former Rivers State governor was interfering in the administration of the current Rivers State governor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hon. Bob described Bwala’s comments as “cheeky, unwarranted, and driven by premeditated bile,” stating that they exposed a poor understanding of governance and the workings of the Tinubu administration.
Bob noted, “He deliberately shifted from the question to talk about the Minister being ‘adequately compensated,’ a phrase that is vague and leaves the impression that public office is viewed as a means for personal gain rather than service delivery.”
He rejected Bwala’s attempt to downplay Wike’s performance as FCT minister, emphasizing that the achievements under Wike’s leadership were results of competence and innovation.
Bob highlighted, “Reducing the Minister’s widely recognized outstanding performance to merely ‘exiting the TSA’ is misleading. In fact, exiting the TSA was an innovative idea proposed by the Minister himself, and President Tinubu’s acceptance of this proposal reflects his confidence in Wike’s capability. This confidence is based on Wike’s proven track record as governor of Rivers State, for which he was also honored by former President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The lawmaker also criticized Bwala’s insinuation that Wike was obstructing the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, calling such claims reckless and unfounded.
Bob stated, “This implication shows a lack of judgment and appears to be an attempt to meddle in issues beyond his competence and official duties.”
As Chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market and Institutions, Bob accused Bwala of personalizing official communication by injecting his own biases and presenting them as the President’s views.
“He undermines the integrity of his office by passing personal opinions as official presidential statements. Mr. Bwala does not represent the President on this matter and ranks low among presidential spokesmen,” Bob added.
Representing Abua/Odual and Ahoada East Federal Constituency in Rivers State, Bob suggested that Bwala’s remarks might stem from lingering resentment over the 2023 presidential election results.
“Perhaps he is still bitter over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s defeat, as Bwala spoke out of turn after Minister Wike politically outmaneuvered Atiku, who was once his principal,” Bob said.
He concluded by urging Bwala to show restraint and humility, emphasizing that communication from the Presidency should be disciplined, objective, and respectful of institutional boundaries.
“Mr. Bwala should understand his position and appreciate the opportunity he has, because despite his claims, he has not convinced many of his capacity for such a role,” Bob warned.
