Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria’s persistent challenges are not a result of inadequate talent or resources, but a failure of leadership to effectively harness the country’s vast human capital.
Obi made the remarks while speaking on a public platform, where he pointed to the participation of Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent in major global events such as the Super Bowl as evidence of the country’s untapped potential.
According to him, Nigerians continue to excel in different fields across the world when provided with the right systems and opportunities, proving that the country has what it takes to compete globally.
“Nigeria is not lacking in talent. Our problem is leadership,” Obi said, stressing that the nation is endowed with both natural and human resources capable of driving sustainable development.
He argued that poor governance, weak institutions and lack of accountability have prevented Nigeria from maximising its strengths, leaving many citizens to seek opportunities abroad where merit and competence are rewarded.
Obi urged Nigerians to consistently demand responsible leadership, transparency and good governance, noting that meaningful progress would only be achieved when leaders are held accountable for how national resources are managed.
He added that with visionary leadership and proper management, Nigeria’s talents and resources could be channelled toward economic growth, innovation and national development.
