The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing the move as politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s Assistant National Youth Leader (North Central), Hajiya Hassana Shuaibu Dada, alleged that the prosecutions were deliberate attempts to weaken the ADC because of its rising influence as an opposition force.
Dada maintained that the party believes the actions were selectively targeted at its prominent members in a bid to undermine its credibility and slow its growing support across the country.
She said the ADC stands firmly behind Malami, El-Rufai, and its members nationwide, stressing that the party would not be intimidated by the development.
According to her, rather than weaken the party, the prosecutions would only strengthen its unity and determination to provide Nigerians with an alternative platform for leadership.
Dada also reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to justice, inclusiveness, and national development, urging Nigerians to remain alert and support the party’s vision for better governance.
She further insisted that the ADC remains focused on its mission to contribute positively to the country’s democratic process and national progress, despite what she described as political pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
