Gunmen have abducted and murdered the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun.
The monarch, who held the title of Alagamo of Agamo, was reportedly attacked at his residence on Wednesday evening.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said the attack was reported at about 7:50 p.m. by a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu.
According to Jimoh, about six armed men invaded the monarch’s home, forcefully took him away, and fled the scene.
“Information received at the Division indicated that approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly took him from his compound, and escaped,” he said.
He added that the traditional ruler’s body was later discovered a short distance from his residence with gunshot wounds.
“The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” Jimoh stated.
Following the killing, police authorities deployed detectives and tactical teams to the area to strengthen security and track down those responsible.
The operation, according to the police, is being carried out in collaboration with local security groups, including Amotekun operatives, local hunters, and vigilante members, who are currently combing nearby bushes and surrounding areas for possible clues.
The Police Command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Jimoh also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the investigation.
“The Command wishes to assure the public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that those behind this heinous act are apprehended and prosecuted. Anyone with credible information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station,” he said.
