The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa (Ezenwata Umuchu), has extolled Nigerian women for their immense contributions to nation-building as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Tony Olisa Mbeki, Chief Ezeokenwa described Nigerian women as the backbone of the family, the economy, and society, praising their resilience, industry, and unwavering commitment to national development despite numerous challenges.
“Nigerian women are truly phenomenal,” the APGA National Chairman said. “Whether in agriculture, trade, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, or the political space, our women continue to hold the nation together with grace, strength, and uncommon determination.”
Reflecting on the United Nations theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” and the 2026 International Women’s Day campaign slogan, “Give to Gain,” Chief Ezeokenwa noted that the theme resonates strongly with APGA’s enduring philosophy of “Be Your Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper,” which emphasizes fairness, inclusion, and collective responsibility for the dignity and well-being of every member of society.
Chief Ezeokenwa particularly commended women for their role in sustaining households and communities, while applauding the growing number of women breaking barriers in leadership and business. He also highlighted the positive impact of people-oriented policies in APGA-governed Anambra State under its National Leader, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, especially the truly free and compulsory education from kindergarten to senior secondary school and improved healthcare delivery, which have empowered women and the girl-child and positioned Anambra as a national model.
Reaffirming the party’s dedication to gender inclusivity, the Chairman stated: “APGA has always stood for inclusive governance. Our progressive ideology is a clear testament to our belief in the power of women. We are committed to increasing women’s participation in party leadership and governance at all levels.”
Chief Ezeokenwa called for concerted efforts to address issues of gender-based violence, economic inequality, and limited access to opportunities, urging all Nigerians to support the full empowerment of women and girls.
