Maduro, Wife Speak from US Custody, Declare Strength Amid Ongoing Trial

Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have expressed calmness and resilience in their first public message since being detained in the United States.
The couple, who have been held at a federal detention facility in Brooklyn for nearly three months following their capture in a U.S. military operation in January, said they remain “steadfast” and “serene” despite their situation.

In a message shared via Maduro’s official X account on Saturday, they said they were in good condition and spiritually strengthened.
“We are well, steadfast, serene and in constant prayer,” the statement read. “Every message of love, every gesture of support strengthens us.”
The post did not clarify who published the message on their behalf, as both detainees reportedly have no direct access to the internet or newspapers.
Sources familiar with the situation disclosed that Maduro spends time reading religious texts and has maintained a composed routine while in custody. He is permitted limited communication with family members and legal representatives through monitored phone calls.
His son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, has also publicly stated that his father remains calm and physically active while in detention.
Maduro, who has described himself as a “prisoner of war,” had not made any public statement since his arraignment in New York earlier this year, where he pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
