The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms claiming that he has resigned from his position.
Speaking on Tuesday in Ibadan, the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, described the report as false, fake, and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard it.
According to him, the report falsely alleged that Adelabu had stepped down from office in order to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tunji stressed that the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities in the power sector and has not submitted any resignation letter.
He also called on journalists and media practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession by thoroughly verifying information before publication, especially on sensitive political matters.
The clarification follows recent speculation triggered by President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31.
The directive, issued in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Under the directive, all affected officials are expected to channel their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before the deadline.
President Tinubu said the move was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with electoral laws, promoting transparency in the political process, and guaranteeing a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the 2027 polls.
The presidency further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring credible electoral processes across the country.
Adelabu’s denial comes amid growing political interest in Oyo State, where speculations had linked him with a possible governorship bid. However, his media team has maintained that reports of his resignation are entirely unfounded.
