CEO Adeleye Falade has officially resumed office as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).
He assumed the position on Wednesday at the company’s Corporate Head Office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, according to a statement issued by the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall.
Falade’s appointment follows the elevation of the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Philip Mshelbila, who has now taken up a new international role as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Prior to his latest appointment, Falade served as the Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, a role he assumed in April 2024. During his tenure, he led one of the world’s long-established liquefied natural gas producers and oversaw strategic operational delivery within Brunei’s LNG sector.
With nearly three decades of experience in the global oil and gas industry, Falade brings extensive expertise and leadership across the LNG and petroleum value chain.
Throughout his career within the Shell Group, he has built an impressive record spanning upstream and midstream operations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa. His professional background covers gas and petroleum operations, production optimisation, engineering, operational excellence, business transformation, and change management.
He has also held several senior technical and executive leadership roles within Shell and its affiliated companies, where he gained broad experience managing complex operational environments, multinational joint ventures, and diverse multicultural teams.
Earlier in 2023, Falade was appointed Country Chair for Shell Namibia, where he provided strategic leadership for the company’s operations and stakeholder relations in the country.
Before his international appointments, he had already built a strong track record at NLNG. Between May 2019 and September 2023, he served as General Manager, Production, where he was responsible for ensuring production reliability, plant efficiency, and operational safety across the company’s LNG facilities on Bonny Island.
Earlier, from July 2015 to May 2018, he worked as Operations Manager at NLNG, overseeing plant operations and driving operational performance.
He subsequently moved to the Netherlands, where he served as Regional Asset Management System (AMS) Implementation Manager at Shell in The Hague between May 2018 and April 2019. In that capacity, he led the deployment of asset management systems designed to improve efficiency and reliability across Shell’s global assets.
Falade holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan.
He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Business School, University of Reading, United Kingdom, further strengthening his leadership and strategic management expertise in the global energy sector.
In addition, he is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Falade takes over the leadership of NLNG at a critical period for both the company and the global LNG industry.
Recently, the company secured long-term Gas Supply Agreements (GSAs) with six third-party suppliers to strengthen feed gas supply to its Bonny Island trains.
This development comes as the Train 7 expansion project approaches completion, a milestone expected to significantly increase NLNG’s production capacity and further strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.
His appointment also means he joins a fully Nigerian management team at NLNG, reflecting the company’s continued commitment to indigenous leadership development and the strengthening of local capacity within the organisation.
