The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of additional security personnel to all examination centres across the country ahead of the forthcoming 2026 examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, following what it described as unverified reports suggesting possible threats to some centres in a North Central state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the police are aware of circulating rumours concerning the safety of certain examination locations ahead of the exercise scheduled to begin on April 16, 2026.
He dismissed the claims as baseless but noted that the concerns raised by members of the public had been taken seriously due to the importance of protecting candidates and safeguarding the integrity of the examination process.
According to the statement, the police have implemented enhanced security measures nationwide, including visible and undercover deployments at examination centres. These measures also include routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations to respond swiftly to any incident.
The force further stated that it is working closely with other security agencies to ensure effective monitoring and to promptly address any potential threats that may arise during the examination period.
It warned that any individual or group attempting to disrupt the exercise would be swiftly identified and brought to justice.
The police assured candidates, parents, and the general public of a safe and conducive environment for the examinations, urging students to arrive early at their centres, comply with examination rules, and immediately report any suspicious activity to security personnel on site.
Members of the public were also advised to disregard unverified information circulating on social media and to rely only on official communications from the examination body and the police.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety during national activities, including the examination period, while appreciating the cooperation of stakeholders and sister security agencies.
