LP Leadership, Including Alex Otti, Agrees to Back Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid — Arabambi

ABUJA — The National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) for the South-West, Abayomi Arabambi, has stated that the party’s leadership, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has agreed in principle to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Arabambi made the disclosure during an interview on News Central on Thursday, saying the decision was reached as part of a broader political understanding.
According to him, the arrangement is based on the belief that the presidency should remain in the South-West for a full eight-year tenure.
“Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because this presidency belongs to the South-West, not to the South,” Arabambi said.
He added that the move was intended to allow the South-West complete its second term at the presidency.
Speaking on reports suggesting that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may be making moves to return to the party, Arabambi firmly dismissed the possibility.
He alleged that despite efforts reportedly being championed by former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, Obi would not be welcomed back into the Labour Party.
“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party, because we have an agreement, even with Governor Alex Otti, because of the intractable crisis and what has happened in the Labour Party, we have all settled that we will support the second-term ambition of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only,” he said.
Arabambi further accused Usman of acting in Obi’s interest, claiming her attempts to facilitate his return were influenced by concerns that Obi may not secure the presidential ticket of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“Nenadi is just an appendage of Peter Obi. She’s only deceiving herself. She wants Obi as our Labour Party presidential candidate, and that is not going to work,” he said.
He also urged her to drop the idea, insisting that no amount of backing would make it possible.
“She should perish that thought, no matter whosoever that is sponsoring her,” Arabambi added.
