Wike Blasts Atiku as ‘Serial Loser’, Says Abuja Projects Near Completion Federal Capital Territory

(FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a habitual election contender with a long record of failed presidential bids.
Wike made the remarks while inspecting ongoing road construction projects across Abuja, where he also dismissed criticism from Atiku that the current administration has not delivered meaningful benefits to Nigerians.
Speaking during the inspection tour, the minister said Atiku’s repeated attempts to contest elections without success had made him a subject of public ridicule.
“Atiku is a serial failure. He is a serial contestant and loser, and I am sure that in 2031, he will still contest. Nigerians would be laughing at such a person making that kind of statement that nothing positive has been done,” Wike said.
He challenged the former vice president to compare the present condition of the Federal Capital Territory with what it was during the years he served in office.
“Let him compare the FCT now and when he was vice president. Can he honestly say what we have now is the same as then?” he queried.
Wike also responded to allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that officials of the FCT Administration attempted to frustrate the party’s convention by targeting the Rainbow Event Centre.
Dismissing the claim, the minister said there was no interference from the administration and accused the party of seeking public sympathy.
“I don’t even know where that place is. There was no interference from anybody. These people should just stop looking for sympathy,” he said.
He stressed that governance and infrastructure development would not be slowed down by political activities, insisting that contractors handling key projects are focused solely on delivering quality work.
“The election will come, but people must work. Contractors are not part of the election,” he stated.
On infrastructure, Wike gave updates on major road projects, particularly those expected to ease movement in satellite communities around Abuja.
According to him, the Airport Junction to Kuje road project is nearing completion, with one section of the bridge almost ready for use.
“From Airport Junction to Kuje, one part of the bridge is almost completed. Before the end of May, the entire job will be handed over,” he said.
He added that the first phase of the dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, covering about seven kilometres, is also expected to be completed before the end of May.
“I am happy with the progress. We are satisfied with the quality of jobs being delivered,” he added.
The minister expressed optimism that the ongoing infrastructure development would transform Kuje into a major residential and commercial hub, helping to reduce population pressure on the city centre.
“Very soon, Kuje will no longer be a satellite town. People will move there and build houses, and the pressure on the city will reduce,” Wike said.
He also challenged the ADC to produce any formal correspondence with the office in charge of Eagle Square management, insisting that due process had not been followed in its claims against the FCT Administration.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to project delivery, Wike disclosed that more than 80 per cent of planned works are expected to be completed before January.
“Our focus is clear — deliver projects, improve lives, and keep Abuja moving,” he said.
