Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi.
Obi arrived in the state capital for the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House. The purpose of the engagement was not officially disclosed as both political figures proceeded into private discussions.
Journalists were expected to be briefed after the meeting, though details of the agenda remained undisclosed at the time of filing this report.
The visit comes amid growing political speculation surrounding Governor Mohammed’s possible defection ahead of the 2027 general elections. On March 31, the governor had publicly stated that his preferred political destination was the African Democratic Congress while hosting a delegation of party stakeholders led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
However, uncertainty has persisted over his political direction, following a separate engagement on April 1 when he received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, at the Bauchi Government House.
Governor Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, remains a key figure in ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition and ruling political blocs, with his next move being closely watched ahead of the 2027 elections.
