Daniel Etim-Effiong Calls for Compassion and Support in Addressing Infidelity in Marriage

Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has urged people to approach cases of infidelity in marriage with empathy and understanding rather than rushing to condemn those involved, describing cheating as a personal struggle that may require support and intervention.
The actor made the remarks during a discussion on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, where he shared his thoughts on how couples and society should respond to marital challenges and mistakes.
According to him, when a partner makes a mistake in marriage, the first reaction should not be judgment but a willingness to understand and help address the root cause of the issue.
“I think the approach should be, if someone messes up in a marriage, it should first come from a place of, ‘How can I help you?’” he said.
Etim-Effiong explained that rather than focusing solely on punishment or blame, efforts should be directed toward helping the person confront and overcome whatever may have led to the behaviour.
He noted that addressing the underlying problem is an important step before any meaningful healing process can take place.
“This is a problem, how can I help you out of this problem? To deal with it, you have to come out of this problem before we can start talking about healing,” he added.
The actor also drew comparisons between infidelity and other forms of misconduct, arguing that cheating should be viewed as one of several human failings rather than treated as an isolated issue.
“Cheating is like other things such as lying and stealing,” he said.
His comments have since sparked conversations about accountability, forgiveness, and the role of support systems in helping individuals navigate marital challenges and personal shortcomings.
