Alexx Ekubo’s Family Announces Burial Date, Funeral Rites Set for June 18 in Abia State

The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced plans for his funeral, confirming that he will be laid to rest on June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.
In a statement shared on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the family said the late actor, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 40, will be honoured with a series of funeral ceremonies expected to draw family members, friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers.
The statement, signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke on behalf of the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family, described the deceased as a man whose life reflected “love, warmth, generosity, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to God and the people he cherished.”
The family also expressed gratitude for the widespread support and condolences received since his passing, noting that the messages, prayers, visits, and acts of kindness had brought them comfort during a difficult period.
“The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, support, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling,” the statement read in part.
According to the funeral schedule released by the family, a service of songs will be held on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with guests expected to dress in white.
A wake keep is also scheduled for June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 in Arochukwu, followed by a reception at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village.
Ekubo’s death has continued to draw tributes across the Nigerian film industry, with colleagues and fans mourning his passing on social media.
The actor, who was born in Port Harcourt and hails from Arochukwu in Abia State, rose to prominence after finishing as first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria pageant before fully transitioning into acting.
He featured in several Nollywood productions including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
