Blessing Fubara Declares Governorship Ambition, Pledges One-Term Agenda in Rivers State

Blessing Fubara, brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the Nigerian Democratic Congress, promising to serve only a single term if elected.
Speaking ahead of the party’s primary election, he described himself as a capable, energetic and prepared candidate committed to restoring peace, political stability and economic growth in Rivers State.
He said the state had, in recent times, suffered setbacks across political and economic sectors, stressing that opportunities, investments and public pride had been significantly eroded.
“We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people,” he said.
The governorship aspirant called for what he described as a collective mobilisation across ethnic and political lines to reclaim the state’s development trajectory, insisting that Rivers State was experiencing a period of distress and political marginalisation.
“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that seems almost like a conquered state. No, we are not a conquered people,” he stated.
Fubara also reaffirmed commitment to the state’s existing zoning and rotational arrangement, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its eight-year leadership tenure in line with established political understanding.
According to him, “We have vowed to keep the peaceful existence of the political rotation of Rivers State according to our founding fathers by our districts.”
He further pledged to serve only one term if elected, saying the decision was aimed at promoting fairness, stability and continuity in governance.
“I have vowed to do just a four-year one-term tenure to bring the expected prosperity and development in Rivers State,” he said.
He added that political influence should not be determined by financial strength but by the support and trust of the people.
The aspirant also urged supporters across all 23 local government areas of the state to mobilise ahead of the party’s primary election, while appealing to other contenders—whom he referred to as elder figures in the race—to support what he described as a people-driven political movement aimed at restoring peace, unity and development in Rivers State.
