Peter Obi Donates N10 Million to Support Renovation, Healthcare Services at Imo Hospital

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to support healthcare services and ongoing renovation projects at Ehime General Hospital in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Obi made the donation during a visit to the hospital, where he was welcomed by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. David Onuoha, alongside members of the clergy and the hospital’s management team.
During the visit, Archbishop Onuoha praised Obi for his consistent support for key sectors of national development, particularly healthcare and education. He described the former Anambra State governor’s interventions as impactful, selfless, and beneficial to communities in need.
Ehime General Hospital, which has been entrusted to the Catholic Diocese for management, is currently undergoing extensive renovation aimed at improving healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality medical services for residents of the area and surrounding communities.
As part of broader plans to strengthen healthcare services, arrangements are also being made to establish a nursing school within the hospital complex. The proposed institution is expected to contribute significantly to the training of healthcare professionals while enhancing the quality of medical care available in the region.
The Catholic Diocese is expected to oversee the administration of the facility, a move stakeholders believe will improve management standards and ensure more efficient healthcare service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Obi emphasized the need for sustained investment in both healthcare and education, describing the two sectors as critical foundations for national growth and development.
According to him, no nation can achieve meaningful economic progress without a healthy and educated population. He stressed that improving healthcare infrastructure and strengthening educational institutions remain essential for building a productive society and fostering long-term development.
Obi also urged governments at all levels to increase support for healthcare initiatives across the country. He noted that faith-based organizations have continued to complement government efforts by providing essential services, particularly in underserved communities.
He called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, private individuals, corporate organizations, and religious bodies to address persistent challenges facing the health sector and improve access to quality healthcare for Nigerians.
The former governor further highlighted the importance of investing in healthcare infrastructure, modern medical equipment, and the development of healthcare personnel, noting that such investments are necessary to achieve sustainable improvements in service delivery.
The visit highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Imo State through partnerships involving private individuals, religious institutions, and public authorities. It also drew attention to plans for expanding healthcare training opportunities through the proposed nursing school, which is expected to help produce skilled healthcare professionals and improve medical services in the area.
Obi’s N10 million donation is expected to contribute to the ongoing renovation of the hospital and enhance its capacity to provide quality healthcare services to residents of Ehime Mbano and neighboring communities.
