Emmanuel Obasi, the former husband of actress Judy Austin, has explained that his emotional breakdown during a recent podcast interview was not connected to his former marriage, but rather his concern for his children.
Obasi made the clarification in a video released on Wednesday after a clip from his appearance on the HonestBunch podcast gained widespread attention online.
During the interview, the businessman became emotional while speaking about the challenges surrounding the end of his marriage and allegations involving actor Yul Edochie. The moment attracted public reactions after he was seen wiping tears from his eyes with a handkerchief.
Reacting to the attention the incident received, Obasi apologised to viewers, stating that his reaction was triggered by painful memories and emotions from his past experiences.
“I want to use this opportunity to apologise for crying on that podcast. I did not plan to break down; something triggered me. I didn’t travel from Onitsha to Lagos just to cry. Please forgive me and understand,” he said.
Obasi also dismissed reports suggesting that he broke down because of Judy Austin, stressing that his emotional moment was not about his former wife.
He explained that his concern was centred on his children and his desire to maintain a meaningful relationship with them.
“I want the world to know that I am not crying over a woman. I am only crying over my children,” he stated.
The businessman further expressed disappointment at the way some people focused on the handkerchief he used during the interview instead of the message he was trying to pass across.
He urged Nigerians to pay more attention to the issues being raised, particularly his appeal for a closer bond with his children.
“Nigerian men should be careful. Imagine a fellow man comes out crying and saying he wants to see his children, but instead of focusing on the message, people are discussing the handkerchief. Why not listen to what I am saying?” he added.
