ADC Rejects Tinubu’s 2027 Endorsement by Three South-East Governors, Says They Don’t Speak for Ndigbo

ENUGU — The South-East chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term by three governors from the region, describing the move as a personal decision that does not represent the position of the Igbo people.
The governors of Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra states — Hope Uzodinma, Francis Nwifuru and Chukwuma Soludo — had during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, thrown their support behind President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the ADC said the governors acted independently and did not have the mandate to speak on behalf of Ndigbo or determine the political direction of the South-East.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Sir Bon Unachukwu, the ADC described the endorsement as a misrepresentation of the views and aspirations of the people, arguing that many Nigerians are still struggling with economic hardship, insecurity, inflation, unemployment and worsening living conditions.
Unachukwu said the endorsement was disappointing, adding that it was difficult to justify supporting the continuation of an administration whose policies, according to him, had failed to ease the challenges facing citizens.
He stated that since the beginning of the current administration in May 2023, many Nigerians had experienced increased pressure from rising costs of living, difficulties faced by businesses and limited economic opportunities.
The party maintained that endorsing President Tinubu for another term amounted to supporting what it described as a failure to address the country’s major challenges.
“Ndigbo cannot endorse failure, and Nigerians cannot reward suffering with another term in office,” Unachukwu said.
The ADC further alleged that the South-East had continued to experience neglect in areas such as infrastructure development, federal appointments and economic investment, despite repeated assurances of fairness and inclusion.
The party also raised concerns over the condition of major federal road projects in the region, claiming that several projects remain unfinished while other regions continue to receive more attention and funding.
According to the ADC, the growing unemployment rate among young people in the South-East remains a major concern, with many educated youths facing limited opportunities and increasing frustration.
The party accused some political leaders of focusing more on personal political interests rather than addressing the economic and social challenges affecting the people.
The South-East ADC therefore reaffirmed its rejection of the governors’ endorsement, insisting that it does not represent the mood of Ndigbo or Nigerians who are seeking improved governance, security, economic recovery and better living conditions.
