‎Anambra Youths Elect New NYCN Chairman, Pledge Full Support For Onuorah’s Administration

Comrade IKC Onuorah has been elected Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, following the successful conclusion of the Council’s 2026 Unity Congress held in Awka. He secured 75 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Nonso Nwebili, who polled 63 votes in a closely contested election conducted by 140 accredited delegates.

‎The congress also produced a new state executive through a harmonization process. Those elected include Comrade Thankgod Nwafor as Deputy Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Ejeri as Vice Chairman (South), Comrade Menkiti Oliseli as Vice Chairman (North), Comrade Akuwenze Chukwunonso as Vice Chairman (Central), Comrade Chimaobi Kingsley Egwu as Secretary, and Comrade Chinonso Onyeanusi as Public Relations Officer, alongside other executive members.

‎Speaking after the exercise, the outgoing State Chairman, Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, described the election as a major milestone in the Council’s history, commending delegates for ensuring a peaceful, credible, free, and transparent process.

‎He also appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Commissioner for Youth Development Patrick Aghamba, past leaders, and stakeholders for their support, while urging the new leadership to uphold unity and meet members’ expectations.

‎Representing the Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Youths, Dr. Augustine Ike, Vincent Okoro-Orji praised the outgoing executive for strengthening the Council and encouraged delegates to uphold credibility in leadership selection. He assured the incoming administration of the Assembly Committee’s continued support in advancing youth development across the state.

‎In separate goodwill messages, pioneer State NYCN Chairman, Elder Obunikem Asuzu, and former Chairman, Dr. Frank Maduka, emphasized that the Council remains a platform for selfless service, leadership development, and youth empowerment. They urged members to avoid partisan politics within the Council and sustain the unity achieved under the outgoing administration.

‎Reacting to the outcome, the President-General of the Anambra State Town Unions’ Council (ASTUC) Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, applauded the peaceful conduct of the congress, describing it as a credible democratic process that has set a new benchmark for future NYCN elections and expressed confidence that the Onuorah-led executive would build on the achievements of its predecessor.

‎In his acceptance speech, Comrade Onuorah thanked delegates for their confidence and pledged to champion an inclusive administration focused on youth empowerment, value reorientation, and strategic partnerships.

‎He promised to run an open and transparent leadership, extend a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants, and work collaboratively to advance the interests and aspirations of youths across Anambra State.
