ENUGU — The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has commended the Enugu State Government for establishing a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, describing it as one of the most advanced security surveillance facilities in the country.
Disu made the remarks during a tour of the facility with Governor Peter Mbah and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), where he expressed surprise at the level of technology deployed to enhance security across the state.
“I must confess that I am surprised we have this kind of facility here in this state because I worked in Lagos. We had something similar there, but the advancement of this one amazed me,” the IGP said.
He explained that the Command and Control Centre is equipped with advanced surveillance technology capable of monitoring virtually every part of Enugu State, including forests and remote locations.
According to him, the facility’s AI-powered cameras can zoom over long distances, enabling security personnel to monitor activities up to 30 kilometres away while providing real-time intelligence for security operations.
Disu said the centre has dedicated officers monitoring different parts of the state and noted that the technology has already contributed to several successful security operations.
“I wish every state in Nigeria would come here, see what is happening and emulate it. I have seen AI cameras, officers dedicated to monitoring different areas of the state and records of the successes achieved through this control room,” he said.
The IGP also praised the state’s Distress Response Squad (DRS), a specialised police unit supported by more than 150 patrol vehicles fitted with AI-enabled cameras linked directly to the Command and Control Centre.
He said he conducted an operational test without the knowledge of the officers by directing them to respond to a specific location, adding that they arrived within minutes.
“I moved around and saw the state’s DRS. We put them to the test, and within two, three or four minutes, they were there. It shows their efficiency and capacity,” he said.
Disu, a former Commander of the Rapid Response Force in Lagos, commended Governor Peter Mbah for investing in modern security infrastructure, describing the initiative as a model that should be replicated across the country.
The Enugu State Command and Control Centre was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on January 4, 2025, during his official visit to the state as part of efforts to strengthen security through technology-driven policing.
