ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ongoing economic reforms, stating that despite the challenges they have posed, the policies are beginning to deliver positive results across key sectors of the economy.
Speaking on Thursday at the maiden State House Media Dinner in Abuja, the President said the reforms introduced by his administration were necessary to reposition the country for sustainable growth and long-term prosperity.
According to him, the nation’s economy is gradually stabilising, with increased public revenue, improved foreign reserves, renewed investor confidence, and stronger financial support for state governments.
Tinubu noted that allocations to state governments have risen significantly, enabling them to fund critical development projects, while the oil and gas sector is witnessing fresh investments. He also highlighted the impressive performance of the Nigerian stock market as another indication that the country’s economic outlook is improving.
The President explained that ongoing tax reforms, fiscal discipline, infrastructure development, and efforts to improve the business environment are laying a solid foundation for a more competitive and productive economy.
He acknowledged that although the country still has challenges to overcome, the government remains focused on achieving long-term economic growth.
“The journey is not yet complete, but the direction is clear, and the foundations for sustainable development are being firmly established,” he said.
On security, Tinubu said his administration has sustained a comprehensive strategy to address terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other criminal activities across the country.
He explained that military operations have intensified in several regions, intelligence gathering has improved, and collaboration among security agencies has become stronger. He also noted that Nigeria has expanded its regional and international security partnerships to combat emerging threats more effectively.
According to the President, these efforts have led to the neutralisation of thousands of terrorists and criminal elements, the rescue of numerous kidnapped victims, and the recovery of communities previously under the control of criminal groups.
Tinubu commended members of the armed forces and other security agencies for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to protecting the nation.
He assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and ensuring every citizen can live, work, and pursue economic opportunities in a secure environment.
The President also used the occasion to acknowledge the vital role of the media in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy, describing journalists as essential partners in nation-building.
While encouraging responsible journalism, he urged media professionals to report accurately and verify facts before publication, warning against reports capable of creating unnecessary tension in society.
Tinubu emphasised that although the media and government may sometimes disagree in a democratic setting, both institutions share the common responsibility of serving the Nigerian people.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting press freedom and freedom of expression, stressing that the constitutional rights guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would continue to be respected.
