White House Reportedly Sought FIFA Review of Balogun’s Red Card as Trump Welcomes Decision

The White House reportedly contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a review of the red card issued to United States forward Folarin Balogun during the FIFA World Cup.
According to a report published by the Associated Press on Sunday, the information was provided by a source familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the communication publicly.
The source said the White House reached out to FIFA seeking a review of the decision that resulted in Balogun being sent off during the tournament. However, the individual declined to provide further details regarding who specifically made the request or when the communication took place.
Following the review, FIFA overturned Balogun’s red card, making the striker available again.
Reacting to the decision, U.S. President Donald Trump praised FIFA for reversing the dismissal.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump wrote: “Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!”
As of the time of filing this report, neither the White House nor FIFA had released additional official details regarding the reported request or the review process that led to the reversal of Balogun’s red card.
