Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has sworn in 23 commissioners and other key government officials as part of efforts to strengthen his administration and accelerate service delivery during the final phase of his tenure.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the International Conference Centre in Gombe, also featured the swearing-in of 13 Special Advisers, one Permanent Secretary and the newly appointed Head of the State Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu.
The latest appointments followed the expansion of the state’s executive ministries from 18 to 23, with the government creating new portfolios aimed at addressing emerging development priorities and improving governance across the state.
The ceremony attracted supporters and stakeholders from the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas, who gathered to witness the inauguration of the new cabinet members and other senior government officials.
Yahaya Creates New Ministries
Among the newly created ministries are the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Governor Yahaya said the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development was in line with the livestock development priorities of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the ministry is expected to promote livestock productivity, develop the sector’s value chains, strengthen food security and further position Gombe State as a major livestock-producing state.
The governor said the composition of the new cabinet reflected the diversity of the state, noting that appointees were selected from across the various local government areas and Local Council Development Areas based on competence, experience and the need for inclusive governance.
Governor Tasks Appointees on Performance
With about 10 months left in his second and final tenure, Governor Yahaya urged the newly appointed officials to begin work immediately and focus on delivering tangible results for the people.
He warned against corruption, indiscipline and divisive politics, stressing that the performance of the administration would ultimately determine how it would be remembered.
“We are approaching the twilight of our administration. Your achievements must become our greatest campaign tools because this government speaks through its work and verifiable performance. You have less than one year to make your mark,” the governor said.
Yahaya reminded the appointees that public office was a sacred responsibility and charged them to uphold transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Gombe Plans Paperless Civil Service
The newly sworn-in Head of the Gombe State Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu, said the state government would pursue the digitisation of the civil service as part of efforts to improve efficiency and modernise public administration.
Shehu said the transition to a fully digitised and paperless civil service would help streamline government operations, reduce administrative delays and improve service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated cabinet, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zubairu Umar, alongside the Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture, Moses Bolda, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mohammed Fawu, pledged the commitment of the new cabinet to implementing the administration’s development agenda.
They also promised to introduce innovative solutions and accelerate the execution of priority infrastructure projects before the expiration of the administration on May 29, 2027.
