OSOGBO — The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed that he did not own a personal house throughout his eight-year tenure as governor of Osun State.
Aregbesola made the claim while addressing supporters in a video that circulated online on Thursday.
The former governor said that during his tenure, he lived in a house belonging to a friend in the Amuta area of Ilesa, Osun State.
He challenged anyone who disputes his claim to come forward with evidence showing that he owned a personal residence during his eight years in office.
«“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own. I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my fatherland. Whoever says what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own,” he said.»
Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018. He later served as Minister of Interior under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former governor is currently playing a leading role in the ADC’s political activities in Osun State and is involved in the party’s governorship campaign ahead of the forthcoming election.
The ADC recently held the grand opening of its campaign in Ile-Ife, where party supporters and members gathered to officially commence its campaign activities in the state.
