Adeleke’s Defection Result of Leadership Failures Within PDP — Ememobong

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, says Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s departure from the party was the inevitable outcome of unresolved internal crises that the PDP leadership allowed to escalate.

Speaking on Tuesday, Ememobong explained that Adeleke became a “victim of circumstance,” insisting that the situation was avoidable if timely and decisive action had been taken. According to him, every political problem is human-created and therefore must be solved through deliberate leadership decisions.

He noted that the warning signs were visible as far back as 2023, but instead of firm intervention, party leaders chose negotiation, hoping that tensions would calm on their own.

Ememobong described the PDP’s decline as largely self-inflicted, warning that political issues worsen when left unaddressed. He cited the controversial party convention in Ibadan — which witnessed mass expulsions, intense disagreements, and the emergence of new national officers — as a major trigger for the eventual fallout.

He added that Adeleke’s exit was tied to long-standing “vicarious liabilities” within the party, problems he said the governor could not completely detach himself from due to his position in the PDP hierarchy.

Governor Adeleke has since resigned from the PDP, the platform that elevated him to the Senate and later to the governorship. His resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, was addressed to the PDP Ward 2 Chairman in Ede North and later shared publicly on December 2.

Adeleke attributed his decision to the persistent crisis within the PDP’s national leadership.

Shortly after leaving the party, the governor announced that he had joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, choosing it as the vehicle for his second-term bid in the 2026 election. He said the move followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and that the Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizen and worker welfare.

Adeleke stressed that contesting under the Accord Party would enable him to continue delivering the governance achievements his administration has been commended for, both locally and internationally.
