President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following their victory over Egypt on Saturday.
The Nigerian team defeated the seven-time African champions via penalty shootout after regulation time ended goalless, in a match where the Super Eagles put up a dominant performance.
In a statement, the President praised the players for showing strength of character and mental resilience, especially after their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco earlier in the week.
He noted that although the Super Eagles’ hopes of reaching the final were dashed following the penalty shootout loss to Morocco last Wednesday, the team refused to allow the setback define their campaign.
According to Tinubu, the players demonstrated the true Nigerian spirit by bouncing back to claim a place on the podium.
“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, the Eagles suffered a painful semi-final loss to Morocco, which dampened the hopes of millions of Nigerians,” the President said.
“However, the team remained undaunted. By displaying resilience, determination, and persistence, they ensured their efforts were rewarded.”
Tinubu added that Nigerians would take pride in the team as they receive their bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.
He further commended the squad for once again reflecting the nation’s famed can-do spirit on the continental stage.
“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels as good as gold,” the President stated.
