Akpabio, Ooni of Ife, Abiodun, Others Commend Tinubu Over Jimoh Ibrahim’s Appointment as Nigeria’s UN Envoy

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s envoy to the United Nations.
In separate congratulatory messages, the leaders described the appointment as a strategic decision that could strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic influence on the global stage.
In his message to the newly appointed envoy, Senate President Akpabio described the appointment as a well-earned recognition of Ibrahim’s commitment to national development and public service. According to him, the senator’s experience and dedication have positioned him well to represent Nigeria in an important international role.
The Ooni of Ife also expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s capacity to deliver in his new assignment, highlighting his academic background and international exposure. The monarch noted that these qualities place him in a strong position to represent Nigeria effectively at the United Nations.
He further commended President Tinubu for selecting what he described as a competent and credible Nigerian for a prestigious diplomatic responsibility.
Similarly, the Olu of Warri said Ibrahim’s appointment while still serving as a senator demonstrates the high level of trust placed in his leadership ability and extensive global network.
Governor Abiodun also welcomed the development, describing the appointment as recognition of Ibrahim’s long-standing career in public service, business, and governance. The governor expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s understanding of global affairs would contribute positively to strengthening Nigeria’s voice in international diplomacy.
According to him, the appointment reflects the lawmaker’s reputation and institutional influence in international engagements.
Meanwhile, the President of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union, Tulia Ackson, also congratulated Ibrahim. She recalled his brief tenure as Interim President of the global parliamentary body in 2023 and expressed confidence that he is well prepared for the new diplomatic assignment.
Other Nigerians who reacted to the development said the appointment underscores the importance of experience and strong international networks in strengthening Nigeria’s representation at the United Nations.
They noted that Ibrahim’s exposure to global diplomacy and legislative leadership could play a significant role in advancing Nigeria’s interests in multilateral engagements.
