Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna Welcomes Peter Obi, Other South-East Leaders to ADC, Tells Young Nigerians to Rally Behind Party

The Convener of the Good Governance Initiative, Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna, has formally welcomed former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, alongside other South-East leaders and members of the Obidient Movement worldwide, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following their defection to the party today, Newday Reporters can confirm.

Amb. Ikebunwa described the development as a significant and positive moment for Nigeria, noting that it signals a renewed commitment by opposition forces to unite under a common platform with a shared vision for national rebirth. According to him, the decision reflects the growing determination of like-minded leaders to “build the same house and speak the same language” in the collective quest for a credible alternative to the current political order.

He emphasized that the ADC is extending what he termed the party’s “traditional handshake” to all progressive Nigerians, stressing the need for unity, solidarity, and collective purpose in building a strong, inclusive, and formidable political structure capable of meeting the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

Addressing Mr. Peter Obi directly, Ambassador Ikebunwa described his decision to join the ADC as a courageous and principled step that reaffirms his unwavering belief in a better, fairer, and more prosperous Nigeria.

“ADC has increasingly become a political home for principled leaders who are driven by integrity, courage, and genuine service to the people,” he said. “Your wealth of experience, your strong moral voice, and your leadership capacity will undoubtedly strengthen our collective resolve to build a truly democratic state and nation, one where justice, inclusiveness, accountability, and equal opportunity prevail.”

Ambassador Ikebunwa further assured Mr. Obi of his personal solidarity, support, and shared commitment to the ideals of positive change, emphasizing that the task of national renewal requires collective leadership, broad stakeholdership, and unity of purpose.

He expressed confidence that, through collaboration and shared sacrifice, the ADC and its growing coalition of leaders and supporters would restore genuine democracy, rekindle hope among Nigerians, and present a credible, people-centred alternative founded on justice, equity, competence, and compassion.

Ikebunwa once again welcomed Mr. Peter Obi and members of the Obidient family into the ADC, noting that the journey towards a New Nigeria is stronger and more achievable when all progressive forces work together.
