ABUJA — The Presidency has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 general election has not been withdrawn, stressing that adjustments may still be made as the party finalises its campaign structure.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the clarification on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
Dare was reacting to reports that the APC had withdrawn the campaign council list following controversy over the inclusion of some party leaders and political figures, as well as the exclusion of others.
According to him, the list remains valid, although it is not final because the various subcommittees that will form part of the campaign structure are yet to be constituted.
He explained that the creation of the subcommittees would provide an opportunity for additional party members and political stakeholders to be incorporated into the campaign structure.
“As it is with every other list, there’s a room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that subcommittee,” Dare said.
He maintained that the APC had already clarified its position on the matter, insisting that the campaign council list remained in force.
“So that list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands. But of course, there will be adjustments. The list is not cast in stone, just like every other list,” he added.
The APC had on Tuesday dismissed reports that the 2027 presidential campaign council list had been withdrawn.
The list, which was announced over the weekend, named President Bola Tinubu as chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, were designated as vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was named Director-General of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed secretary.
However, the composition of the council generated reactions within political circles, particularly over the selection of some individuals and the absence of other prominent party members.
When asked whether the list was therefore open to further consideration, Dare declined to describe the expected changes as a “review”, saying the term suggested a much broader alteration.
According to him, what the party was planning amounted only to adjustments rather than a wholesale reconsideration of the entire campaign council.
“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” Dare said.
He further explained that the campaign council would have additional subcommittees, which would allow more members of the APC and other relevant political stakeholders to play roles in the 2027 election campaign.
The Presidency’s clarification suggests that while the core structure of the APC Presidential Campaign Council remains intact, further appointments and modifications are expected as the party continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
