Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has recorded another historic feat as her latest cinema release, Behind The Scenes, has officially crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.
The milestone was confirmed on Monday by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, which disclosed that the movie has grossed ₦1,109,463,846 since its release, placing it among the most commercially successful films in Nigeria’s cinema history.
According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes is now the fastest film in West Africa to surpass the ₦1 billion benchmark. The distributor also revealed that the film set a new industry record on Boxing Day, earning ₦129.5 million in a single day — the highest ever recorded on that date.
FilmOne further noted that the movie currently stands as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025 so far, maintaining strong box office momentum weeks after its nationwide cinema debut.
The success further strengthens Akindele’s dominance in Nollywood, with FilmOne describing her as the only director to have crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the box office on three separate occasions. She is also recognised as Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time.
In another unprecedented achievement, Akindele has become the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion-plus films within a single calendar year — a record yet to be matched in the industry.
Reacting to the achievement, FilmOne expressed appreciation to cinema audiences across the country, describing the accomplishment as a collective win made possible by sustained public support.
Before reaching the ₦1 billion milestone, Behind The Scenes had already broken several records. The film grossed ₦512 million within just 12 days of release, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 at the time. It also became the fastest Nollywood movie to hit the ₦500 million mark.
The film held advance screenings on December 10 and 11, ahead of its official nationwide release on December 12. Within days of opening, it crossed ₦200 million and went on to post what was described as the biggest opening weekend of 2025.
Behind The Scenes stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role and features a star-studded ensemble cast including Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni,” Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, as well as reality TV personalities Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
