Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and announced his defection to the Accord Party, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
In a formal resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area, Governor Adeleke confirmed that he ceased to be a member of the PDP effective November 4, 2025.
Adeleke explained that his decision to leave the party was driven by the lingering internal crisis rocking the PDP at the national level. According to him, the unresolved leadership issues have made it difficult for him to continue his political journey under the party’s banner.
The letter read:
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”
Governor Adeleke, who first gained national political prominence through the PDP, expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided throughout his political career. He acknowledged the support that helped him emerge first as Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District and later as Governor of Osun State.
He stated:
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
On Tuesday evening, during a broadcast monitored by Newday Reporters, Adeleke officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political home. This announcement confirms earlier reports by Newday Reporters, which had indicated that the governor was in advanced discussions to join the party after sources close to the developments hinted at an imminent defection.
Adeleke’s move is expected to reshape political alliances in Osun State and may significantly alter the dynamics ahead of future elections.
